It’s Labour Day which traditionally signals the end of summer. Yes, there will be some “summer-like” weather still before fall really arrives and we all start to dread the cold winter months ahead, but the first Monday in September has always been the box on the calendar that marked the transition from summer to autumn.
This summer has been a decent one. I spent a lot less time outside compared to past summers where I tended to work from our back deck basically five days a week (weather permitting). The reasons for not being outside as much this summer were mostly due to a need to avoid the sun this season as I get some laser hair removal treatments done. I’m hopeful that next summer will be better for outside work and also for some more beach days.
Ginny, Mac and I were in London and Amsterdam in late June for nine days of European adventure. Both cities were lovely to visit and we enjoyed touring, seeing the sights and getting away from work and life across the ocean. Mac especially enjoyed it and we were happy to have helped her to have that experience.
We didn’t get up to the cottage on Christie Lake that we’ve rented the last two summers as the owner didn’t put it up on Airbnb this year. That was a bit sad as we really enjoyed our times at that cottage. We did get out for some camping this year though including a trip with a Karma Campervan rental to Grundy Lake Provincial Park and a Labour Day weekend trip to Crawford, Ontario where we rented a bunkie on the Styx River.
Lindsey was home from Victoria for a week and a bit with boyfriend Mathew which was a nice chance to spend some time with them. We got out to a Blue Jays game (they won!) and enjoyed some good meals and played tourist in our own area for a bit.
Aside from that, I kept up my running routine and as of today, I’m less than five weeks away from running the Royal Victoria Marathon in Victoria, BC. Running five days a week again has been great for my physical and mental health. I’m down about 13lbs and in a better place than I was last summer.
I still have that trip to Victoria and Vancouver to look forward to in mid-October, and we also bought a new RAV4 Woodland that should arrive in the next few weeks. Both of those are helping to take away a bit of the sting of the end of summer.
