On the eve of marathon number 15, I’m sitting here worried about a ton of things I can’t control. My left knee is a bit weird. The weather might be windy. What if the bus doesn’t show up on time tomorrow? Did I train enough? Have I eaten enough? Is a sleeveless tee a smart idea? Why didn’t I pack a throwaway sweater for before the race?
None of this really matters anymore, of course. The weather will be the weather tomorrow. I’ll probably be happy in shorts and a sleeveless shirt (with arm warmers to start). I’ve eaten fine and I’ll have a good dinner. The bus will show up or I’ll take an Uber or even just walk the 3.5km to the start.
That’s distance running for you though. I did 25 weeks of training for this race and that was probably a few weeks too many. My legs always feel like this the week before the race and I know that it’ll probably be fine. If not, oh well and I’ll push through. I’ve never not finished any race I’ve run except for one marathon I ran as a training run where I didn’t care about it and so I dropped out at 36km.
